Welcome to
Fontaine's
on the lovely island of
Boracay in the Philippines

Boracay is a
tiny, lovely 7 km long island just off the northwest coast of the large island
of Panay in the province of Aklan. The home language is Aklanon,
but both English and Tagalog are spoken by nearly all. Although becoming a
major Asian tourist destination, it has retained a "low-key" flavor
accommodated to the local ecology. Its beaches and tropical allure bring
together people from all over the world and their mix with the local Aklanon culture gives it an "international
texture" that further enhances its appeal.
Fontaine's main
house includes 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a living room with kitchen, large main
deck and small private deck outside the top-floor bedroom, water, electricity,
fridge, and phone. We also have a 2-bedroom/2-bathroom guest cottage. It all
sits above a quiet cove in Bolabog on the north end
of Boracay Beach. When we're not there enjoying it ourselves, it is available
for long-term lease (just inquire as directed below). Our view
looks out through the coco palms and across the Sibuyan
Sea to the islands of the Visayas. It has a private
access to a beach protected by coral reef and offering waters full of marvelous
swimming, shelling,
sailing, snorkeling, scuba
diving, fishing and windsurfing. It's an easy 10-minute walk to the
restaurants, boutiques, bars, discos, skin diving and sea-sports rental shops,
and people watching in nearby White Beach, often called "the
best beach in the world." It's an inspiring 30-minute hike in the
opposite direction to the top of Mt. Luho
(Mahogany), the highest point on the Island with views across both the Sibuyan and Sulu Seas.

three kids on the beach in front of our place with our small "baroto" for exploring the reef.
The beach in front of Fontaine's is
sugar-white sand bordered by the blue-green sea and palm trees. At low tide the
sea retreats several hundred meters nearly to the coral reef. The seafloor is
sand, sea grass, and coral. In the spring we have seen baby turtles swimming
out to sea so they must still bury their eggs on our beach (but we've yet to
see them do it!). Our cove and the adjacent bay are excellent for snorkeling,
windsurfing, sailing, beachcombing, and shell collecting. Because the cove is
protected by the reef, the waves are small and the water is great for wading,
collecting, and swimming for children. The forest around our cottage is home to
at least a couple communities of monkeys.
