Hullachan Pro Dance Shoes (ghillies)
Comments from another dancer: "I would definitely try their ghillies if you have problem feet - as well as having a range of width fittings, their shoes have stitching under the instep which supports a flat foot and also gives the illusion of having an arched foot. The Hullachan Pro ladies' country dance shoes are brilliant if you have any foot problems such as plantar fasciitis - thank you to whoever mentioned them on Strathspey a while ago!
Heather and Thistle - ghillies etc.
Located in Keene, NH, USA. I have always been pleased with the service. As I remember black ghillies are $35 a pair delivered right to your mail box typically in a couple days. If you get a pair and it does not fit, you just send them back by mail and Mr. McGrath will send you another pair (so if you have trouble getting the right size this is a good option). Delivery is usually very fast. I'm really pleased with how long the ghillies last--very good quality. Mr McGrath is a Scottish dancer himself.
Seniors - ghillies etc.
Kilt Hose (Socks)
White kilt hose on the net; says that a) they are favourites with pipe bands b) they have terry cloth knit incorporated into the feet. I've heard some highland dancers recommend them.
Tartan Kilt Hose
Apparently a lot of the highland dancers get the tartan hose from Kilkeel, a company located in Northern Ireland. They make seamless hose (mainly for children) and custom-made fully fashioned hose suitable for adults. I believe the custom hose are about US$80 per pair (tho I could be wrong).
