The John Rice Irwin - Anderson County Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Tennessee is honoring our ancestors who lived in Anderson County. A Bronze Plaque with the names of the Revolutionary War Veterans who lived in Anderson County will be installed on the Courthouse lawn in Clinton, Tennessee.
A temporary image of the plaque was displayed at the Veterans Day Celebration, November 11, 2005, at 11:00 am. (11/11@11am 2005) A permanent plaque will be prepared and mounted at a future date. There is still time to include your ancestor if you provide the information before it is cast.

Please notice that some of the names previously on the approved list have been removed. If you are concerned about this, and have information that justifies including the name, it is urgent that you contact us promptly.
Usually we have eliminated names because we have doubts that the Anderson County resident and the soldier of the same name were the same person. For a few cases, we have discovered that the service was not for the Revolutionary War, but was for the war of 1812. In a few cases, we have simply not been able to verify that often told stories have any basis in fact. When we publish our book of biographies, we will include all the names we have researched, and if we eliminate anyone who is listed in the various Histories of Anderson County, we will include our findings which lead us to exclude the name. We would rather be correct than to copy the mistakes of others.
Please notice also that we have included many new names that were not mentioned in any history of the county as having served in the Revolutionary War. These we have discoved through the contributions of their descendants who have provided us with the information needed to include them, and we thank them very much.
We will continue to make changes until our deadline to submit the final list of names to the foundry for casting the plaque. If others should be included, we need to know their names now!
