Sir Thomas Leigh and
Alice Barker

Sir Thomas Leigh. He died in 1571. Sir Thomas was a mercer (merchant) and Lord Mayor of London in 1558/59. As mayor he led the coronation procession through the city upon the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I on 15 January 1559.
He married Alice Barker, niece and heiress of his business partner Sir Roland Hill (Lord Mayor of London in 1549). Alice died in London in January 1604.  After Sir Thomas' death, Alice lived at Stoneleigh Abbey and built many almshouses in the area.
In London the Leighs lived on the east side of Old Jewry Street near the intersection with Cheapside, the main London thoroughfare.  In 1561 Sir Thomas and Roland Hill also purchased Stoneleigh Abbey in Warwickshire from William Cavendish, co-heir to the Earl of Suffolk.  Stoneleigh Abbey is still the largest house in Warwickshire.
Sir Thomas Leigh and Alice Barker had the following children:

 i.   Catherine Leigh.
ii.  Winifred Leigh.  Winifred was born about 1538.
iii.   Roland Leigh.
iv.  Sir Thomas Leigh.  Sir Thomas died in 1626. He was made a Baronet in 1611.
