Custom aircraft building is a pursuit of symmetry and detail... Philosophers have struggled with this pursuit and best resolved for me by Thoreau at Waldon Pond when he declared, "Simplify, simplify, simplify, do not fritter your life away on detail". Leonard Milholland, the designer of the Betterhalf VW and Legal Eagle Ultralight airplane has listened to Thoreau and developed both engine and airframe followed with plans that are beautiful in simplicity and execution... As builders we try to bring that symmetry and detail together with our minds and hands... As pilots we practice to become one with the machine, knowing the instrumentation, use of controls and maneuvering as an organized part of the sky... Then, not always and oftener as you get better, you are flying a system that is symmetry and detail mastered by you, through the air with precision that only birds know as they rise and fall above the ridges as the maker moves air and landscape beneath them and you...
