Blue Whales and Dolphin
Blue Whales and Dolphin story and photos continued
Not too long after turning back we hooked up with three more Blue Whales.  These were moving much slower (but still in to the wind.... which most of them seemed to be!).  They were nice and showy and we got to see plenty of them.  They were even rolling a bit and we would see the side of the tail fluke out of the water while they swam.  A few times they even managed to surface a bit closer to the boat.  Just when we thought we might turn off them they would change their pattern and do something interesting and make us stay.  These were really nice Whales to watch and we had a lot of fun with them
We did finally turn off and I went in to the cabin to thaw and try to eat something.  I wasn't even finished when the Captain said we were approaching another Blue Whale and this one tail fluked (none of the others we had found were tail fluking on their deep dives).  Of course this meant he would be under for a bit so I finished quickly and headed back out.  He surfaced again and blew a few times then he tail fluked and went down for his deep dive.  This particular Blue Whale was very familiar to the Captain as it was missing quite a bit from each side of it's tail fluke.  While we waited for this one another one came up in the area and also showed us a nice tail fluke (which is how we knew it wasn't the same Whale).  I would have preferred to follow that one since it wasn't headed against the wind...LOL.  But we turned and waited for the other to come back up so we could get a better look at that tail with the missing ends.  Shortly he did come back up and we got another look at his fluke.  We waited for this Whale to come back up but I thought it was going in another direction.  A Whale surfaced up ahead and we tried to catch up but I am not even sure it was the same one.  If they said either way I didn't hear it.  We headed off and soon encountered another pair of Blue Whales.  These were very nice Whales that showed lots of back but no tail flukes.  We watched a while then headed off again.
