Cameron Vale is a homeless man who can hear people's thoughts,
and attack their minds. Cameron is captured by a man named Dr. Paul Ruth
and is given ephemerol to calm his powers. We soon find out that he
is a scanner and that he is needed to go after another scanner named Darryl
Revok. Revok is attempting to join all the scanners together to fight in a
war against normal humans. Any scanners that do not join Revok are killed.
Dr. Ruth works for ConSec, a company that is trying to harness the power
of the scanners for the good of mankind. After training Cameron in how to
control his powers Dr. Ruth sends him out to find Revok. Cameron eventually
finds a group of good scanners in hiding but all but Kim are wasted by Revok's
goons. Cameron gets a vial of Ephemerol that was manufactured by another
company called Biocarbon Amalgamate. Cameron Infiltrates the Biocarbon Amalgamate
and finds out that they are related to ConSec and that a Computer Program
called RIPE will blow the lid off the whole thing. Mind melding with a computer
through a phone line, Cameron gets a list of Doctors using Ephemerol to
make more scanners for Revok's army (I wonder what Cameron's baud rate is?).
Keller orders the computer operators to self destruct the computer in order
to keep the info safe but is killed when they actually blow it.
After talking to one doctor Cameron and Kim are captured by Revok. Revok
spills the whole story that Dr. Ruth knew that ephemerol when given to pregnant
women created scanners. Revok also says that He and Cameron are brothers
and the sons of Dr. Ruth. Once Cameron turns down a place in Revok's army
the two begin a scanning duel, a psychic battle royale. When Kim finally
comes to we see that Cameron's body resembles a charcoal briquette and Cameron's
mind took over Revok's body. The End.
This one had some good special effects but the acting not impressive.
Why didn't they just cut the power to the computer? Blowing it up seemed
so drastic.
In reference to the DVD back cover, Trailers and the language selection
aren't really "Special" features anymore.
Not as "Truly Horrifying" as the Los Angeles Times quote on the front of
the box but still worth renting. (unless they were referring to the acting
in the film)
