Tom Riley is a freelance writer/photographer for 2 newspapers and the author of 7 books (fiction and nonfiction)on various subjects. He was invited to give 6 lectures at the Thayer Hotel in West Point on the history of postal services from 6,000 years ago to the present based on his book, WE DELIVER. He has taught over 12,000 children the joys of stamp collecting based on his book, BEN'S BIG BOOK OF STAMP COLLECTING FOR KIDS: ALBUM INCLUDED. He does this through the NYC Public Library's Become a Stamp Collector Program. Tom wrote 2 novels, THE STUYVESANT CONNECTION and JOHNNY EDEN. THE STUYVESANT CONNECTION is a young adult novel about 3 innercity youths who win a high school science award and are invited to tour the Mammoth Caves of Kentucky along with other winners. They are drawn into an adventure that will test their courage and change their lives forever. JOHNNY EDEN is a Pacific Northwestern novel about a Haidan youth who is kidnapped by gold prospectors. The boy is the son of a chieftain whose culture is driven to create art. He grows into manhood and is forced to fight evil through the use of the martial arts. Tom was raised in an orphanage and wrote about the place he came to love because it saved the lives of 3 brothers and a sister. HAPPY VALLEY SCHOOL-A HISTORY AND REMEMBERANCE is the story of the years spent at HV. While he was writing the book on HV he came across a treasure trove of information all but forgotten in an old barn. It was about the largest mass migration of children in American history. Over 250,000 children were transported across America by the Orphan Trains. Tom's book, THE ORPHAN TRAINS came out of handwritten records from 1832 to 1929.
