" In Praise of Woman" - Part 5

On Wednesdays, for the entire month of March, "Classical Discoveries" celebrated the music of women composers in observance of Women's History Month. The series was titled "In Praise of Women".
Eventhough "Classical Discoveries" will always include the works or women composers one must ask the following: Why are the efforts of women in general presented just during the month of March?
The thought of this is indeed very sad! When music is presented on the airwaves, the works of women composers should never be forgotten.
As I feel these programs proved, there is a tremendous amount of little known repertoire by women composers that can be enjoyed by many radio listeners. This five part series "In Praise of Women" barely scratched the surface eventhough it included works by over 80 women composers. There are an endless number of other women composers to examine.
After writing the comments above I must ask again, "Why are the efforts of women in general presented only during the month of March (Women's History Month)? These same thoughts can be, for example, applied to black composers as well. Why is the music of black composers often just featured on Martin Luther King Day or during Black History Month? There is no reason for this music not to be aired and performed all year long!
As I am writing this I am sure that the Beethoven Fifth Symphony, as great as it is, is being aired over and over again on a number of radio stations throughout the world.
