" Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same
Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but
the same Lord.
And there are diversities of operation, but it is
the same God
which worketh all in all.But the manifestation of
the Spirit
is given to everyone to profit withal."
- Paul, the Apostle
Wesley is considered one of the founders of Methodism
by many do not know that he never left the Church of England.
He viewed the movement as a "reform" ministry that God
had raised up to bless the Anglican Church and he labored
tirelessly for unity within the Church. He found support
for this position in the spirit of the Apostle Paul.
Dodd represents the biblical theology movement of early
20th century which sought to recover the neglected
emphasis of the Kingdom of God theme in the gospels and
"realized eschatology" in the writings of Paul.
Tozer says, "God wills that we should push on into His
presence and live our whole lives there". There
is no inspired record of one who lived in this way more
consistently than Paul, the Apostle.
Preaching Christ - Charles McIlvaine
It hardly needs to be said that Paul was always focused
on Christ, his cross and his exaltation. To
proclaim the unsearchable riches of Christ was the passion
of his ministry.
Dying with Christ - George Smeaton
The element St.Paul seemed to grasp more completely about
the cross of Christ, was the aspect
of what has been called the atonement. For Him, baptism
into Christ meant an identification so
complete that he literally died with him to the world,
its sin, and even to his religion. It was in
fact that which freed him to now live in "newness of
spirit" the Christ-life.
The Ministry of The Spirit - A.J.Gordon
It is the Apostle Paul who provides us with the fullest
exposition of the role of the Holy Spirit, both in
living the Christ-life as well as in regards to the Church
as the Body of Christ. The emphasis in his letters
on "in the Spirit" is almost synonomous with "in Christ"..
The Activity of Faith - Thomas Hooker
This great salvation that God has freely given to sinners
in Christ alone, must be applied to the individual
by the work of the Holy Spirit. This necessitates the
activity of faith; or as Paul liked to say- "the Just shall live by Faith".
With little formal education, Pink had an amazing grasp
of the Word of God. He loved the Puritans and
had a large part in republishing their writings for the
American churches. His writings are both prophetic and deeply devotional.
He is a very helpful resource in studying the epistles
of Paul.
What Is Worldliness?- James Boice
To understand Paul's God-given role in the development
of the universal Christian Faith, it is vital to enter into his
own vocabulary. Such words as death (3 kinds), flesh
(2 meanings), and world/worldliness, are among the most central.
Dr.Boice was an outstanding minister of the gospel and
a worthy student of the Apostle to the gentiles.
Union and Communion with Christ- A.W.Pink
The gospel is good news because it announces that God
has given to sinners a perfect salvation to be enjoyed
now, in this life. The design and purpose of the gospel
is to bring about the healing of the nations, the reconciliation
of humankind with God. Paul's vision of what this includes
for the child of God is what Pink would have us
believe about the gospel and personally experience daily.
