The Pan American Games
The Pan American Games are an Olympic-style competition for athletes of the western hemisphere.  Held quadrennially since 1951 the games have become a showcase of American friendship through sport.
PASO voted the host city for the XVth Pan American Games on Saturday August 24, 2002.  The two candidates, San Antonio (USA) and Rio de Janeiro (BRA), each had one hour to make their case for hosting the games.  Then the 51 members of PASO present voted 30-21 by secret ballot to award the XVth Pan American Games to Rio de Janeiro.
In June 2006 PASO voted unanimously to award the XVIth Pan Am Games in 2011 to Guadalajara (MEX).
