THE FAIRY WHO
LOST HER WINGS

Fairy lost her
Wings one day
No one knows the reason why.

A tiny thing
That was she
In her pretty dress of gold.

Nymph couldn’t glide
On the air
What was she without the sky?

Wandered over
Hill and dale
What would happen from now on?

Walked ‘til she came
To a place
Unlike any that she’d seen.

An ocean wide
Met her eyes
Like Heaven upon the ground.

Sat on the rocks
Watching waves
Motion soothed her troubled brow.

One day appeared
A black fish
Stripe of red along its back.

He asked her name
She told all
The sad plight that brought her there.

Weeks they talked
By the shore
She unburdened her sore heart.

Then she asked him
"Oh fish friend
Tell me what do I do now?"

No answer came
He just said
"My dear, I believe in you."

Time and again
His refrain
"My dear, I believe in you."

After a while
Words sunk in
She began to believe too.

She felt a twinge
Deep inside
Something had started to grow.

The days passed by
Her toes seemed
As if they could leave the ground.

Then one morning
She did find
Her wings had sprouted again.

Twirled round and round
Overjoyed
Then with a leap she took flight.

Gave her thanks to
That dear fish
With a flutter bid goodbye.

She rose above
To the clouds
And rejoined the bright blue sky.

So ends this tale
Tried and true
Wingless fairy flies once more.
