Champ

Champ is a Quarter Pony and is currently 32 years old (in 2007). He is doing very well for such an older horse. I have had since February 10th 1979. He is a very smart horse and sometimes too smart for his own good. He is an accomplished escape artist and though he has mellowed in his older years he is still learning new tricks. He even learned to open clips so he could turn himself out and I had to become even more careful how I secure things.

Though Champ is mostly very well behaved he also has a big stubborn streak at times. When he was a younger horse he never spooked of anything but as he has aged he has lost some of his vision and now gets very spooked by silly things. With his vision and just an overall decline in his physical self he is much more insecure than he use to be.

Angel

~May 15, 1981 to April 4, 1998~

Angel was an Arabian/Appaloosa cross that I had from the day she was born until she passed away (colic) just shy of 17. She was smart with an easy going and willing personality and was very easy to train. All I had to do was call her and hold up the bridle to go riding and she would come to the gate.

She had an injury when she was a baby that permanently scarred her hoof from the inside out and eventually cause chronic problems. We dealt with it okay but she had good days and bad. When she was having a bad day and didn't want to go riding she would turn away if I came with the bridle. Since I knew her and knew she loved riding, when she would do that I would respect her choice that she didn't want to go riding.

Champ and Angel always got along well. Champ adored her as a foal and was very doting with her. He has always loved babies. Champ has always had a 'heard stallion' mentality but not in an overly agressive way.

I have been fortunate to have horses nearly all my live and Champ and Angel were not my first horse. I had a couple of Shetland Ponies when I was very little.
