Welcome to the 611trans co R.V.N

This page is dedicated to the people who served in the 611th transportation co in Vinh Long Viet Nam. I was there in the early seventys in the Delta Riggers Maint Platoon. We were a Direct Support Aviation Unit. We were the Southern most unit in the 34th support group. Our commanding officer was Major Leonard J. Spanjers. Our primary mission was direct support of aviation in the Mekong Delta area and to sling downed helicopters back to the airfield at Vinh Long and maintanace and repair.

My name is Patrick R. Dupuis (Dupree) and I hope to find some of the people I served with in Viet Nam using this page and hope you will too. My E-mail address is: Pats611trans@cs.com. If I can help you find a lost buddy from Nam I surely will we can use the sign my Guest book at the bottom of this page or my e-mail to keep in touch. If enough of us get in touch I will set up a reunion somewhere mutual to all. I personally remember such people as John Day Fl.,Gary ByrumVa.,Peter lesssor, J.P.Onisko,Phil Southern Ca.,Jack Graham Al.,Pete Ruiz NM.,Rudy Zamora Tx., Sgt Hill, Capt.Jack Magrowski, Cwo Frank ?Galv.Tx., Adams, and Brown and after twenty seven years my memory tends to come and go so I am sorry if I missed some one but dont let that stop you from getting in touch with me. Let me know who you are looking for from this unit and I will post it.When I got to Nam in oct 70 I was a naive, insecure kid from Houston,Tx who learned as much during my time in country as most people had back at home who where twice my age.Thank you to Jack Graham , John Day and Phil Southern it would not have been the same with out you three guys.
If any one has any photos of the group or people or the place send them to me via e-mail and I will include them. If you dont have a scanner send me E-mail and I will send you my address then you can send them to me and I will scan them in and return them to you.

I am the guy in the back of the tug with the mustache and on top of the bunker with no shirt. Southern VietNam was one of the hottest most humid places on earth when the monsoonal rains finally did come they were most welcome evan though they didnt drop the temperatures enough to really make any differance. Sometimes the heat was so oppressive the guys would sit out on the bunkers till dark trying to catch any stray breeze. In the background was the Catholic orphanage in VinhLong. During the TET  Offensive of 68 charlie sat his big guns up on that wall and strafed the compound repeatedly for days and then overran it.

The next three pics are the air field at Vinh Long. A Cobra taking off with my friend Gary Byrum for a shake down ride that I am sure Gary will never forget. Just to prove that rotary wing was not the only things we repaired this bird dog was stripped to the frame and completely rebuilt by the guys in the hanger next door.

The next four are looking down the perimeter line from my hooch we were that close to the edge. Guard Tower 35 which was next to the hooch. looking out at kill zone from tower35. A good place for zappers to try and make there night moves. This is the southern view from the bridge that crosses the mekong river on the way in to the town of Vinh Long. The local kids would do trick dives into the water for a few piasters.

I tried to get as many photos as I could to scan but they had been in the album for twenty seven years and had stuck to the back of the page. Some would not come out with out tearing so I did the best I could. I left many in the book to preserve them. Any suggestions and all constructive criticism will be taken to heart. Thanks for dropping by Patrick
