Bellamy River
|
Pole platform nest erected near Bellamy River shore on NHF&G property in the fall of 1994. Has never had any activity.

Blackwater River
|
Iain MacLeod discovered a nest with ospreys built on top of duck blind on a small island on the west shore of the Blackwater River in Seabrook in 2006.

Brookside Sanctuary
|
Tree nest at NW end of wetland heron rookery on Back River at ASNH sanctuary off Woodman Rd in South Hampton. Discovered by Mark Suomala on 05/18/2004 during birding trip. Active 2004-2005. Upper 1/3 of nest tree snapped off during winter 2005-06. New nest under construction near south shore, used in 2006 to present.

Colby Marsh
|
Truncated snag located in SW corner of pond formed by Crommet Creek. First used in 1992 as a 'frustration' nest after Willey Pond birds made unsuccessful nesting attempt at Jeff's Hill. Predator guard put on tree the following winter, but not used again until spring of 2002. Active 2002-present.

Dame Road
|
Natural tree nest in middle of Great Blue Heron rookery. Discovered by Megan Libby in midsummer 2000 while radio-tracking Blanding's Turtle in wetlands off Dame Road. Active 2000 to present, but using 4th nest tree in wetlands. 2006 nest is in a old heron nest near the top of a live pine only a short distance SE of the original 2000 nest, nest failed. 2007 nest is back in tree used in 2004.

Exeter Conservation
|
17 foot high 4-legged (quadropod) tepee-style platform erected on salt marsh on west side of Squamscott River on Town of Exeter conservation land just south of the Newfields town line on 11/06/04. Has never had any activity.

Great Bog
|
Small nest on double crossarms of power poles just NE of power substation off Ocean Road in Portsmouth. Found in fall of 2006.

Jeff's Hill
|
Natural tree nest discovered by Krista Helmboldt while constructing the Jeff's Hill Nature Conservancy trail in summer of 2000. Failed in 2000, but fledged chicks in 2001-2005. Tree broken off with nest & chciks in 2006.

Landing Road
|
A low platform sunk into the mud in the Taylor River in Hampton at the end of Landing Road by Dave Weber of Hampton about 1993-95. It had never been used until 2003. Nest failed in 2003 & 2004. 2005+ nest on power pole across river south of the boat club building.

Pole platform nest erected near Vols Island on west side of Great Bay in the fall of 1994. Active from 1996 to present.

Milton Mills
|
Platform placed 60' high on topped white pine on NW shore of Northeast Pond along the Salmon Falls River at Branch Hill Tree Farm on 10/27/04. Has never had any activity.

Newsky/Klein
|
Active nest found on private & posted land adjacent to protected land off Dame Road in Durham on May 8, 2005. Found by land stewards Lee & Carol Hodson while walking lot boundary. Successful in 2005, but nest blew out of tree during winter 2005-06. No activity in 2006.

Nottingham Road
|
Nest atop powerline through wetland with small heron rookery. This nest on Nottingham Road in Deerfield was discovered by Steve Mirick & Jane Lawrence on 05/16/2003. Nest failed in 2003. In 2004 nest blew off pole pre-season.

Platform erected in late March 2007 in a topped live pine near Discovery Center.

Seabrook
Station
|
This man-made tree nest on Hunt's Island at the edge of the marsh near the nuclear power plant was built in late winter 2001. It is visible from the marsh board walk at the PSNH nuclear power plant nature trail. Also, a ~20 foot platform nest has been part of their nature exhibit for many years and is located adjacent to their marsh board walk and observation blind. There has been no activity at either of these nest sites. 2006 man-made nest has blown out of the tree.

Squamscott
River
|
Nest built in late summer of 1992 on top crossarms of PSNH transmission line where it crosses the Squamscott River east of the Route 108 bridge & Chapman's Landing. The following winter PSNH lowered the power lines to a new set of crossarms below the original ones. Active from 1993 to present.

Strafford Co. Farm
|
A Wooden platform installed on 10/16/2003 in the top of a topped, live white pine 64' above the Cocheco River on Strafford County Farm property in Dover. It is less than a mile from the Bellamy Reservoir. Active 2004 to present.

Stubbs Pond
|
Pole platform nest erected at Great Bay NWR in spring of 1994. Active from 1996 to present.

Taylor River-east
|
A low platform sunk into the mud in the Taylor River in Hampton near the Hampton Beach water tower by Dave Weber of Hampton about 1993-95. It has never been used. It is composed of 2X4's & not as substantial as others on Taylor R.

Taylor River near-east
|
A low platform farther to the east of Landing Rd, probably of the same vintage, though first noticed on 04/20/2005. It appears to be of the same construction as the Landing Rd platform. Has never had any activity.

Taylor River Marina
|
A low platform just east of the marina at Landing Road. Origingal Landing Road site which failed for 2 years before moving to new Landing Road nest.

Taylor River-west
|
A low platform sunk into the mud in the Taylor River in Hampton about mid-way between Lafayette Road & Interstate Route 95 by Dave Weber of Hampton about 1993-95. It has never been used.

Weapons Area
|
A 2004 effort is the 3rd nesting attempt in the weapons storage area (WSA) of the old Pease Air Force Base (now Great Bay NWR). Nest is among 4 lamps on cross arms atop a tall light pole along the west fence of the WSA. In 2005 a new nest was created amid another set of lamps on a pole about midway between the east & west fences ~300yards from the north fence along the refuge's Ferryway Trail. Nest blew off pole during winter of 2005-06.

Weapons Area #4
|
In 2006 for the 4th time an osprey pair has chosen to use the crossarms at the top of a light pole within the weapons storage area at Great Bay NWR. This was a practice nest & they constructed a real nest in 2007.

Willey Pond
|
Original bay nest site in Black Gum snag. Discovered by Steve Mirick while censusing Great Blue Heron nests. Active from 1989-1991 & 1993-1998. 1992 they moved to Jeff's Hill for one unsuccessful season. 1999 they moved to another tree in same pond, but were unsuccessful. Site & original tree not used again until 2007.

York Pond
|
Nest in snag in beaver formed wetlands near York Pond at the source of the York River. Found in 1993 as the result of a sportsman newspaper article. Active through 1998. Nest tree failed to survive that winter & birds moved elsewhere. No attempt made to discover where. Site is active again in 2005 & has been for several years. A platform replacing the tree nest, lost duriing winterof 2004-05 is currently in use.
