10:45 Enter Jeff's Hill marsh from the north route off Bay Road. Pond very quiet.  No osprey observed or heard.  Moved SW along edge of pond in attempt to view pond area behind island south edge of pond.  Observed no activity.  Headed back to Bay Rd when heard an osprey north of Jeff's.  Followed old logging trail & osprey call to another bog/pond about a 1/2 mile from Jeff's.  Osprey call went silent, pond had several great blue heron nests, nesting geese; but no osprey nests observed.  Hiking back to Jeff's heard the osprey again, went back to the pond a 2nd time; but could not locate the osprey.  I think there may be a 2nd pond over the ridge where the call was coming from.  When I got back to Jeff's, heard an osprey calling from the south shore of the pond & observed an osprey in flight, circled back to south behind the island in the pond.  Lost sight on osprey.  Must be something going on south of island.

12:25 F in incubating posture low in the nest; M perched & preening in snag ~50 yards from nest tree.  M with frequent territorial calls while looking up - I couldn't see anything, but he did.

11:50 Arrived at south end of wetlands & was greeted by single osprey call.  Found F? perched in snag on the west shoreline of the lobe-shaped wetlands.  12:03 F? flew to the substantial nest at top of snag on south end of pond & perched on upper branch overlooking the nest interior.  Bird remained there preening, looking around & occasionally vocalizing a soft call until I left at 13:00.  Only one osprey seen.  No incubation, yet.

I spent several hours traversing the wetlands south & east of Jeffs Hill.  Finally got a response to my presence along the shoreline at the SE corner of the wetlands.  When I emerged from the woods I heard several vocalizations.  I couldn't find the source.  A bird was either perched in one of the many snags or sitting low in one of two potential nests near the south shore at that corner of the wetlands.  After hearing nothing for seveal minutes, I moved closer to the shoreline, but for the next 45 minutes I neither saw nor heard an osprey.  The southern most tree has a substantial nest with good-sized sticks that bears watching, but no positive nest location.

14:40 4" of snow on the trail.  Pond open water.  While walking into site area from Bay Rd first heard & then observed 2 osprey circling high north of the trail about 1/4 mile in from the road. Arriving at the observation point at the pond, again heard & then saw 4 osprey circling high again on the south side of the pond near the island.  As they are circling and soaring with the wind, calling back and forth with each other.  I moved to the failed nest tree (nest broke off from top of tree losing chicks last year) and observed the same 4 circling south of site.  Appears that they are looking for nesting possibilities.  There is a predator guarded tree on the south side of the island area noted this winter - maybe a nesting interest.  There are numerous great blue heron nests in the area which may serve as a "starter" nest.  On the way back to Bay Rd, saw same 2 osprey still circling north of the trail, but at a lower altitude.
