Responsibility #28
(written prior to July 1992)

To the People of the United States of America:

In the last essay we began the discussion of American society's slide down the slimy slope of immorality.  We recapped how a number of so-called privacy actions of our government (particularly the Supreme Court) had rended the garments of our families, and thereby undermined the foundation of our nation.
Many findings, actions, and practices of our Supreme Court, Congress, and Presidency have and do cause (or aid and abet) immorality in America (and, by example, to the rest of the world).  Where immorality, per se, may be deemed not to be involved, the practices have been and are destructive of "human life and happiness."  They thereby fail to meet Thomas Jefferson's definition of the "first and only legitimate object of good government."  These will be discussed, and remedies proposed, under the various headings (see Responsibility #16) to be covered in most of the remainder of these papers.
Let us first complete consideration of the sole right of husbands and wives to, and responsibilities of, the conjugal copulative act.  The family is joined and held together by love. The most compelling expressions of that love is the regular and intimate union of these two people, who were made one through the marriage contract.  With limited exceptions, these mates will choose to become pater and mater familias.  In those roles, their priceless joys are matched with awesome responsibilities.
Immigration aside, it is only they that determine the continuation of the strength and happiness of the United States of America.  How they love, give birth to, nourish, train, educate, provide example for, discipline, encourage, lead out into the world, and even sustain by caring in their adult years, each and every one of their children, builds or erodes our country.
In the past 30 to 50 years, the government (and society in general) has caused or permitted the defenses of the family to be lowered.  The first casualty was the exclusivity and privacy of the marital copulative act.
Through the obfuscation of the rights of "freedom of speech" and "freedom of the press", the communication and entertainment industries have been given free reign to trash the marital act. It has been reduced to an animal pleasure to be enjoyed by anyone, anytime, and in any mode--without any responsibilities or consequences.
Nothing can be advertised or promoted without some sexual message.  Few movies or TV programs are produced, without reliance upon at least one scene involving promiscuity and perversity.  Relatively few movies, TV programs, advertisements, and other media material are devoted to the joys and fulfillment of the family.  Money and power, and to hell with families and the foundation of the USA!
The government and society limit and constrain freedoms of speech, and of the press, in many areas to promote the general welfare.  Food and drug, and investments are two prime examples! Our justice system is rightfully seeking criminal and civil redress from Charlie Keating, because he allegedly had his salesmen mislead senior citizens, by speech and press, in a location which by law was out of bounds.
Why does the Bill of Rights allow the communication and entertainment industries, to mislead and rend our families, in our living and recreation rooms, on streets and avenues, in public movie theaters, in daily newspapers and in magazines, and practically everywhere?  The consequences of the latter are much greater, and much more widespread than the former.  Lack of regulation of the former can cause unhappiness, and hardship, for some of our citizens.  Non-restraint of the latter has and is causing the death of our families, and the decline and fall of our nation.
The regressive decisions of the Supreme Court (and the tacit acceptance of them by the Congresses and the Presidents) has permitted the revelers to abscond with the sole right of married couples, to the copulative act.  Why take on or retain the responsibilities of a husband or father, wife or mother, when the instruction from the media says there is a good time to be had and its for free!
If adults can do it, why not us teenagers?  It looks like fun on the soaps, why don't we eleven and twelve year olds try it?
If the government and society appear to accept sex outside of marriage as the norm, why should the perverted acts of we homosexuals not be permitted, or restricted to the closet?  If perverted sex acts are permissible, why not further deface the definitions of marriage and family by blessing the union of male to male, female to female, and let homosexuals "raise" "families"?  Since marriage and family no longer have clear definitions, why should incest and pedophilia continue to be unacceptable?  Next down the pike; the right to have sex with animals?  Why not, man and woman are merely superior animals!

It is evident that we have quite a road back.  50 years ago garbage was kept off the airwaves, excluded from the theater reels, and not printed in the magazine and newspaper pictures or text.  Families were whole and wholesome.  Families got us through the Depression and World War II.  It is clear what we must do.  The Supreme Court decisions, laws, practices, and attitudes that subvert the family, and taint the morals of individuals, must be reversed.
It seemed that we would never escape the Depression.  But we did!  And then came World War II.  After Pearl Harbor, it was the bleakest of the bleak.  How could we fight wars on two fronts, ten thousand miles apart?  Wouldn't our allies, Britain and Russia, be defeated before we could get factories in production; and army and navy expanded and ready to do battle?  Then came the quickest, and greatest, mobilization the world had ever seen. Every family gave its all.  No turf was sacred.
Early in the war an inspiring tune was introduced on the airwaves.  Once heard, you could not forget the lilt: "We've done it before, and we can do it again, and we will do it again."  WE WILL DO IT AGAIN!  Play that song again Sam!
