Engine Specifications
This 60 HP version of the direct drive (from the pulley end) Type 1 VW engine has been recognized as a work horse over the years... Leonard's designs are budget based so this engine is no frills with much work intended to be done by the builder... Economy does equal effort in this exercise.
o 69x92cc Type 1 VW 4 cyl.
o Battery/alt/ 009 distributor with Blue coil.
o Zenith Updraft carb & heat.
o Engine mount is attached via the 4 transaxle case connecting bolt holes at the rear of the engine block - note that the non-load bearing portions of the transaxle connecting flange has been cut away.

Purchased parts thus far are:
o Cast Intake manifold elbows - shortened, make up pipes with I.D. =< 1.4" connected with Fuel Proof hose and stainless clamps safety wired...
o Exhaust system - U-Build Exhaust kit
Kubota Tractor dealer - local
o Alternator - alum drive pulley found and adapted to flywheel bolt pattern... Locate alternator to run belt aligned with pulleys...
Intake system
Even though the Zenith carb is a very old unit going back to the Model A Ford days, VW tuners still rate it very high in both performance and serviceability - its ready to go mixture control is valuable for an aircraft application... A good carb heat setup is required and the heat muffs are shown with the exhaust assemblies below...
