The Hiking Experience
The big Island offers a variety of climates that few other places on earth can match. Pristine Beaches to Rain Forests to the 13,000+ summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa (often snow capped during the winter months), the hiking choices are many and varied. We offer guided day hikes, overnight treks or combination hike/kayak trips to a variety of locations.
We have a number of options for our day hikes. We can hike to beaches in the North Kona or South Kohala area. Another option is to hike into one of the valleys (Black sand beach) on the Northeast side of the island (2 miles roundtrip relatively easy going in (15 minutes) but steep, moderate workout (30-40 minutes) on the way back up). Or we can hike into the heart of the rain forest, 5 miles roundtrip on easy trail, weather permitting. Participants for these outings should be in reasonable health capable of light to moderate exercise, snacks will be provided. Hat and sunscreen recomended. Transportation is not provided, meet at departure point, morning or afternoon start (valley and rainforest hikes only done in am).
Hike-Beach-Snorkel-Lava Tube Adventure:
We hike to one of North Kona's less visited bays. We beach, snorkel and view Hawaiian history. Experience the mystery and beauty of an inland, partially submerged, lava tube, once the private swimming pool for Hawaiian royalty! Three mile walk, hike can be extended (6 miles total) with additional points of interest for stronger hikers. Participants for this trip should be in reasonable health capable of light exercise, lunch will be provided. Hat and sunscreen recomended. Allow 6 hours
We also have some easy overnight trips and other more challenging hikes which can get us to idyllic and remote locations.
