"Crossing Bridges"

About "Crossing Bridges"

"I walked out of the doctor's office in total shock!!! Autism? What is autism? Is this serious? Will he grow out of it? What do I do now? Where do I go from here? Where should I go for information and support? This isn't real! How could this have happened?"

This booklet is the result of our having lived the above scenario, recalling the many difficulties we endured immediately after receiving the diagnosis of autism/PDD for our beautiful children.

We are mothers whose children have been diagnosed with autism/PDD and related disorders. We bear the scars of having had limited direction for resources, information, and support after receiving such devastating news. Part of our healing is to share what we have learned with other parents "gently guiding them over one bridge at a time" into the fragmented world of autism/PDD.
"Crossing Bridges: A Parent's Perspective on Coping After a Child is Diagnosed with Autism/PDD" is a compassionate and honest guidebook written by three mothers for parents whose child is newly diagnosed with autism/PDD.

The many uses for this guidebook include:

~ Educating, validating, and empowering parents of
children diagnosed with autism/PDD

~ Fostering an appreciation of the many challenges
faced by children with autism and their families

~ A multi-faceted "quick-read" for professionals

~ General autism/PDD awareness

A message from the Autism Society of New Hampshire

The Autism Society of New Hampshire
is pleased to fund the reprinting and distribution of the revised edition of Crossing Bridges.

This book has been a valuable resource to the families we serve and we include a copy in all the starter packets that are mailed to families of children newly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Its easy-to-read style and direct language make it a perfect first read for a parent coping with the challenge of understanding just what autism/PDD means.

The Autism Society of New Hampshire is a nonprofit volunteer group of parents, professionals and community members dedicated to serving the needs of individuals on the autistic spectrum. Through education and public awareness the society fosters understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of those with autism/PDD. We disseminate a newsletter, maintain a website, support conferences, offer scholarships, contribute library materials, and offer support to parents.
