B.B.F. OSTEND BRIDGE CLUB

Yves & Francine Campana

SYSTEM : PETIT KARO or small diamond.

General approach: PK is a bidding system which limits the point-count of each opening bid very strictly. Unless you open 1§, your partner will mostly be the leader and determine at what level to play the contract.

We use strong club 17hp and up or equivalent point asking: 1¨ =0/6 // 1© =7/8 etc.per 2 points and 5card majors 11/14 hp. 1¨ 11/14 hp any distribution / 1© relay less than 11/12hcp / suit change non-forcing! 1NT response on suit opening is forcing 11/12+hcp. 2 over 1 non forcing .

1NT = 15/16

Summary

-------

1§ = 17+ or equivalent

1¨ = 11/14 any distribution no good 5card major 1© is relay 6/10hcp non forcing, can be short in © serves as relay with 5/10 points to permit opener to rebid but can be passed out if opener has long weak © suit. 1NT forcing 12hcp+

1© /ª = 11/14 5card. forcing is 1NT/2§ answer=11/12

2§ = 15/16 with a good 6card § + or 15/16 with 5card major 2¨ relay // 2NT forcing

2¨ = multi: 15/16 with 5card ¨ or more / weak 2© /ª

2© /ª = 15/16 hcp with good 5card or more

2NT = 13/15 with 5/5 in minors; hcp in the minors only

Forcing pass sequences

pass by 1§ opener if response of partner has been positive = 1© + pass by forcer ( 1NT ) if openers' response maximum

Leads

Suit and notrump

Standard attitude Hi-Lo in the suit played

Hi-LO = even // 4th best M.U.D. lead with 3 small cards

Ace: A , AKx , or better A , AK , AKJ or better

King: sequence or AK

Queen : sequence

Jack : seq. or top

Ten : top sequence even

Signals:

Hi/lo = encouraging in the suit played or even

Discarding also hi/lo

Preference signals when obvious

Doubles:

Double of intervention on 1 level is forcing on partners 1st/2nd hand opening

Redouble is forcing on partners 1st/2nd hand opening

Pattern : lowest possible response can be very weak

negative double on 1© /ª intervention with a passed hand

double of 2© /2ª intervention on partner's 1§ opening = 4/6hcp with support for other major

Overcalls:

can be strong up to 16hcp if no support for other suits

weak jump overcall

reopening can be weak

1NT= 16/18 balanced no stayman or tranfer

same 2NT on weak 2© /ª

4th hand reopening 1NT= 10/12 balanced

natural responses weak jump little defensive value

Michaels cuebid

Jump cue-bid is natural with long suit ex 1¨ - 3¨

Multi-Landy 2§ for majors and 2¨ transfer

New suit after overcall is inviting

We bid our own strong suits if any

Double = balanced take-out

Redouble is forcing after 1¨ /© /ª opening

Redouble of 2© /ª = forcing 8+hcp

change of color on partners preempt is forcing

jump in forcing situation is singleton or void with maximum hand and support

----------------

1§ any distribution 17hcp+ or equivalent point asking

1¨ =0/6 1© =7/8 1ª =9/10 building up per 2 points

also on intervention up to 2©/ but 3§ on 2ª intervention is natural 7+hp. Double is for penalty except x of 1¨/1©/1ª = 4/6 / xx of 1§ = 4/6 with § . Double of 2© or 2ª intervention = 4/6 with other major.

1NT rebid by opener without 5 card ( major ). If responder has a weak hand less than 6 or less then 4hcp after reasking then we still use stayman and transfer.

We first bid 5cards ( long suits ) + then 4cards

1© on 1¨ ( points )response is reasking hcp! 1ª will be less than 4hcp; 2§ is 4/6 with § or no 5card and 2¨©ª will be a 5card at least ( 4/6hcp ).

1ª on reasking is 0/3 and 1NT or 2§ 4/6 no 5card major

2NT is full forcing on negative responses then use  baron + texas

other bids are 5cards+

stayman + texas on 1NT rebid by opener if responder is minimal

After a positive response all bids are game forcing for responder. Only the 1§ opener can decide not to bid game!

1¨ 11/14 hp no 5card major 1© relay 6hp can be short in + 1NT forcing 11/12hcp +

1ª is probably 5card unless singleton © suit change not forcing

but 1¨ / 1© and repetition of © is stronger than 1¨ / 2© which excludes game.

change suit non forcing.

jump suit weak.

On 1NT forcing 2§ =11/12 2¨ =13/14without 4card major 2©/ª = 4card 13/14

2NT game forcing after 2§ response

2¨ on 2§ asks for majors and is forcing for opener until at least 2NT is reached

further rebids are natural .

With a passed hand of responder all bids are natural.

jump in suit in forcing situation =singleton or void with support other suits /natural bidding

1¨ - 3§ /3¨ asks for 3NT by opener if he has stops

1© /ª 5card 11/14hp 1NT forcing and redouble is forcing with 11/12hcp at least

double on 2level intervention is for penalty / 2NT forcing

pass<10hcp and no bid to improve the contract

2§ =11/12 on forcing 1NT or xx

2¨ rebid is 1 round forcing after 2§

natural rebids

jump in forcing situation is void or single with support for other suits

2 over 1 colour change not forcing

1NT 15/16 hp regular distribution

stayman / transfer

9hp=2NT / 10/15 = 3NT

2§ 15/16 hp Good 6card § or good 5card major

2NT is forcing 9hcp+ bids are natural

2¨ Multi 15/16 with 5card+¨ or 6/10 6card major

2© relay weak

2NT forcing 14 hcp+

3§=weak major/ 3¨ strong suit 3©/ª =max major /3NT AKQxxx in ©/ª

2© / 2ª 15/16 hcp 5card major : 2NT forcing / 3 other major by opener is 3card

2NT 5/5 minor suit 12/15 hcp

all hcp in minor suits

natural responses???

3§/¨ good 7card with tops natural

3© /ª natural preempt

3NT long minor

Higher bids are natural

Notes

1§ opening

If opener rebids 2NT after points were asked or intervention then

3§ = baron asking for suits

3¨ = responder has a 5card minor. Opener asks 5 card minor with 4§

3©/ª = 5card responder

3NT = 4333 4 card §

After 1NT rebid when minimal response 1¨

1NT 2§=stayman 2¨ =transfer

Same after 2NT full forcing on negative response

1§ - x - xx = 4/6 with 5 card § 1¨ = 4/6 pass= 0/3

1§ - ¨ © ª - x = 4/6

1§ - 2©/ª - x = 4/6 support for other suits pass= 0/3
